I am back in Puerto Rico this week to take part in a “DNS Week“.
As the name suggests it is a week devoted to all things domains and DNS which is being organised by LACTLD, ICANN and the .pr domain name registry.
It should be an interesting week, as there’ll be a good mix of topics being discussed ranging from commercial and marketing through policy to the very geeky technical aspects of the DNS.
One of the topics that will be discussed this week is emerging technologies such as DoH (DNS over HTTPS) and DoT (DNS over TLS). They’re very interesting technologies with quite broad ranging impact. The discussions at the moment are timely, as several of the browser developers are about to roll out versions of their software that will support DoH. Of course while this technology is good on some levels, it’s not without its downsides, which is why there’s always such robust debate on the topic.
I’ll be speaking at the LACTLD event on the “registry – registrar model” and how it can be beneficial for country code managers to adopt. Later in the week I’ll be talking about some of the more commercial aspects of the DNS, as well as discussing current policy proposals within ICANN. The end of the week there’ll be a special event for gTLD domain registries from the Latin American region which I’ll also be speaking at.
It’s going to be a busy week!
